Jan 31

It was a lovely sunny morning, so I went down to the river to take a few pictures of the swans that are always there.

And here they took flight:

And this is what you end up with after you get a flat tyre on your way into work, and have to put on the emergency tyre. Doesn't it look utterly lost? But it did get me back home though, so I guess it did it's job!

One taped-up ankle saw Elko through the test for being able to go back to rugby training. To his delight he's been given the green light, albeit with the advice to start gently the first week!

Blue candle holders showing signs of wear and tear... they are used often, and have been around a long time!

And here is where we went today, partly because there was a wedding fair held here, and partly just because we could go see the Hall. Not much use as a wedding fair, but then, we have most things sorted/booked. The hall could do with a good clean (dust!) and a polish of a lovely wooden staircase.. a general air of being in need of a little TLC.

I would not mind a sun hug... the weather has been dreary lately and I miss the sun...

This is one of a pair on my mantelpiece... I love the look of these but they stink when you light them, so they are just being kept as decorations!

Can you see it? Can you? I could.. it was really noticable tonight when I got out of the office: the sky was not pitch black! There was a noticable lightening and to me it said: spring will come!! :)

A close-up of a detail of one of my houseplants.
And no, I can't remember what it is called... so if you do... tell me!!

EDIT: And thanks to Bill... I now know what this plant is called:
"Little Boy Plant" or as my mum used to call it (even in Dutch is is called that name!): "Flamingo Plant". The proper name is Anthurium, and if you are really curious, go here:

And this is where we went to: Sudbury Hall in Derbyshire.
I love going here and feel very lucky that I can do so anytime I like.

Jan 17

A day late, as we were away and this is fuzzy as it was taken while I was the passenger in a (slow) moving car!! I am just very pleased to have caught it on camera. We see them frequently around here, and just around this place, there are lots and lots of them but I was still lucky to have caught one of the red kites!

Not the sharpest (best focused) picture, I need to work on that.. but I do like the colours.. they brought a smile on this dark and drizzly grey day!

The challenge was to photograph our engagement rings - close-up. This was hard to do as I was not yet sure about how to alter settings on the camera yet - at least not in manual mode! But I found almost the right setting in the end! I will have to give this another go later.

One of my favourite items: a Galileo thermometer... here seen in a close-up shot. It threw the colours as a reflection onto the wall behind it!

Oops.. spot the missing date: Jan 11

Just a gate post...

Jan 13 - zoom all the way in..!

This is what you can see (click to get the bigger picture) when you zoom all they way in! I was well impressed with the zoom!

Jan 13 - zoom all the way out

This is with the zoom all the way out, have a good look at the big picture (click on this one!) and see what you can see next to the lamp post slightly to the right of the middle of the frame...

And here the first picture with my new camera!

I am so excited about my new Camera.. or as one friend misread it: my new Camel :)

A wintry day: this was the world at about 2pm this afternoon.

The red twigs stood out against the white bark in the pale wintry sunshine this lunchtime.

And speaking of my office... this is the front door of where I spend my days!

This tree stands just outside my office, and I like the way the sun created a nice wintry silhouette.

This is the most ridiculous thing I have seen in a long time: Christmas chocolate right next to Easter chocolate on the shelf in the local grocery store.... On January 5th?? They need to get a grip!

Needed some milk so went down the road to the little Tesco shop at the petrol station!

Played at setting up blog most of the day, so ended up taking a photo of the sunset in my street.. just stood in the doorway (it's cold outside without a coat!) and pointed the camera down the street.

Went to Stansted Airport to collect Elko who'd been in Holland for New Year's Eve! Jealous I am!! He loved setting off all the fireworks, and spending time with his cousins at my sister's house. Elly: thank you for having him!!

And so here is the first entry: January 1st, 2009.

Our first game of Scrabble... and I lost! :(

I've joined the world of bloggers...

And why? Because I have joined the Project 365! Taking a photograph every day and posting them online. Fun to do, and hopefully will expand my photography skills in the process.

But it also raised the question of what to do with the photo's, and where/how to post them.
And then I remembered I had this Blog, so it might as well get used!
